This is pretty much the worst 10Best issue yet. The selections seem fine, but I really miss the days when they just lead off with here are the 10 best cars you can buy new under $XX,XXX and made the rest of the issue a sort of year in review. Now we’ve gotta slog through all this crap about “well this car is also kind of good but not 10Best good.”

Exactly. I’ve been reading this mag since before the first 10 Best, and for me the various other 10 Best articles were more interesting than the lead article. A bunch of comparison articles? Pass - one per issue is sufficient.

gotta love it - Lee Iaccoca, an F4 and a 944 in one mag

Dang and I thought my sub going back to 1998 was long! Agreed ofen the non-car 10Best lists were even better reads. I try not to be all “things were better back in the day” because I realize they need to change and adapt but this latest one is a mess. Look at this just 2 years ago:
Is this really so hard? Sure this one wasn’t stuffed with lists, but it had a small article about each car (the CTS one about the team behind it was awesome), a small Winners and Losers feature, and none of this comparison bull. Not everything needs a big change and a baiting cover.

(Mini-kinda-spoiler alert)
Is this the first time ever there is not a single BMW on the list? Feels weird. Especially with 3 big competitors on there. I’d say maybe that could sting a little but I think they’re too busy selling boatloads of X6 sDrive28d MSport ActiveHybrid GT’s it whatever they call them now to care .

Which makes me wonder, since I haven’t paid that much attention to C&D as of late until I got the chance to get 2 years for cheap, do they still do a 5 Bests for trucks, SUVs and vans, or is that a thing of the past?

5Best trucks is long gone. I don’t remember exactly when it went away but at over 5 years ago for sure. Since it was categories you could just look for the most recent comparison tests of vans/pickups/SUVs to figure out the winner.
